Joel 2:28 “After this I will pour out my Spirit on all humans; then your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions” In the early morning hours of October 5th, 2023, the Lord gave me a dream. The date and time are significant because of what happened the previous day. October 4th , 2023, was arguably one of the most difficult days our family has ever endured. That was the day, just a little past 8:00 am that morning, my wife Naomi and I sat in a doctor’s office and learned that she had been diagnosed with cancer. Difficult does not seem a strong enough word to describe hearing that news, potentially earth shattering seems more appropriate. The rest of that day was filled with many emotions and many prayers. That night, as I eventually slept, the Lord gave me a dream. I know this dream was from the Lord as He has shown me things through dreams and pictures before. Most regular dreams I don’t usually remember, but when I receive one from the Lord, it is very clear and very real, and I remember them clearly. This dream was very cinematic, like a movie. It opens outdoors at night; the sky is dark and cloudy. It’s hard to see, but I can make out a lone figure standing in the darkness. The clouds clear and a full moon illuminates the scene. I see the figure is a man and he is standing in front of a castle. He is looking out into the darkness in front of him. I’m not close enough to see his face clearly, but I can tell he has long hair and a beard. He is dressed in metal armor, which appears silver in the moonlight. I get the sense that this man is a king, standing ready to defend his castle. He stands still, staring out into the darkness and as the moon illuminates more of the countryside in front of him, I can see the advancing army. They appear to be thousands in number. It is an army of grotesque monster-like creatures, horrible to look upon. Many are on foot; some have wings and are flying in the air toward the man. The man stands facing the advancing army. I see a close shot of the man’s face. He is calm, his face shows little emotion. When the horde gets within 100 yards of the castle, the man draws his sword. The sword appears to be made of metal, but as the man holds the sword above his head, it ignites into flames and becomes a burning sword of fire. I get a look at the man’s eyes, and they appear to be burning with the same fire as his sword. His face is no longer calm. He is angry, his brow is furrowed, his mouth is pulled back in an angry sneer. He opens mouth and he begins to yell a wordless scream of anger towards the horde. The army begins to run towards the castle, closing the distance rapidly. The man begins his attack. He levels his sword at the frontlines, points it at the horde and they begin to burst into flames. He waves his sword back and forth at the creatures, and they burn. He directs his fiery gaze at the beasts and anything he looks at burns instantly. He waves his hand at the winged creatures in the sky, and they burn as well. The man is mighty, and the creatures are no match for him, the action is fast and intense, but the man never moves off his spot. Then suddenly, there is a distressed scream from inside the castle, a female’s voice. I somehow know it is the king’s daughter, the princess. Something has breached the castle and the king’s daughter is in trouble. At the sound of the scream the man turns towards the castle with an angry look on his face, he knows what has happened. Something got in! He turns back to the remaining attackers and with a wave of his hand the remaining horde bursts into flames, they are defeated. The king quickly turns and runs towards the castle…and then I wake up. The next day, as I thought about the dream, I felt comforted. It was my feeling that the Lord was showing me that He heard our cries and that He was rushing in to help us in our time of need. I was reminded of Psalm 40:1 “I waited patiently for the Lord, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help .” Later that day I told my wife about the dream, we both felt encouraged because we felt like the Lord was saying to us that we already knew the end of the dream. The King saves his daughter! We felt like the Lord was reminding us that because of Jesus’ victory over sin and death on the cross, we could stand and claim that victory over cancer and trust in Him that He would help us defeat this illness. Throughout the whole of the next year as we embarked on the journey to defeat this cancer, the Lord was with us the whole time and He won! Psalm 23:4 “ Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” As I continued to think more about this dream over the following days and months the Lord remined me of John 1:5 “ That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.” I was also reminded of the fourth man in the fiery furnace. Daniel 3:25 “He exclaimed, “Look! I see four men, not tied, walking around in the fire unharmed; and the fourth looks like a son of the Gods. ” The Lord was reminding me that the man who stood in the darkness, in the breach, in the fire, was Jesus Christ, the light in the darkness. He stands there now victoriously, ready to defend all who believe in Him when they come under attack. Whenever we find ourselves in seemingly impossible situations; whenever we feel like we might be consumed in a fiery furnace; we as believers can stand assured that we know the Man who is ready to rush into battle for us, and He is undefeated! All we have to do is call out to Him and He will hear us. Jesus stood in the shadow of the cross, He stood in the breach for our salvation, and He won! We claim that victory today. Praise God! 1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” Psalm 91:1 “The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 18:6 “ The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. I called to the Lord in my distress, I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.” –Daniel Bryson |
