Jeremiah 1:5 “ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…“
Before a potter shapes a piece of clay he has an idea, a bowl, a vase, a cup, formed first in his mind. Before an artist creates, there is a passion that is stirred inside. In the same way the creator of the heavens and the earth. The one who placed the stars in the sky and knows them each by name. One day HE had an idea that inspired HIM to create yet again. That idea was you.
Before God formed you HE knew you. You were HIS idea.
In Acts 3:15 Jesus is described as the “Author of Life“.
HE is the author of your life. HE formed you and breathed life into your lungs. HE didn’t make us drones that follow HIM against our will but HE gave us a will of our own. And each one of us like sheep went astray, we turned and went our own way. We rebelled and were deserving of the wages of sin but instead of bringing judgement the Author of Life came into the world and made a way for us to live again.
Romans 6:23 “ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.“
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.“
While we were dead in our sin the Author of Life laid down HIS life so that we might live forgiven.
In Hebrews 12:2 HE is described as the “Author and perfector of our faith”. But there is still something in us that wants to self determine. We want to be the author. But you were Jesus’ idea and HE has a good plan for your life. Now we get to decide if we want to self-author this story or do we want the Author of Life, the Author and perfector of our faith to write this story.
Jesus is Lord and Savior. Many times it’s easier to accept Jesus as Savior than it is Lord. It’s difficult to let someone else be the author of our story. But no one has a better story for your life than the Author of Life. I want to encourage today: surrender the pen to HIM.
What does it look like to let the Lord have the pen? Jesus says in John 4:34 “My food is to do the will of HIM who sent ME and to accomplish HIS work.” What was sustaining Jesus was doing the will of HIS Father. HIS goal was not to do HIS own will but the will of the Father. We see Jesus bowing to the Father’s will in the Garden of Gethsemane, Luke 22:43 “…not my will, but yours, be done.” There were two different wills in that garden and Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will. To let the Lord be the author means we seek to know and do HIS will.
Let HIM be Savior and Lord. Trust the one who started this story of redemption to bring it to completion.
Philippians 1:6 “ For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.“
