Do you remember? Have you heard it today? Because it is something we need to hear on a daily basis. It doesn’t get old no matter how many times we read, hear, or proclaim it. It’s the good news of Jesus Christ that has been ringing out for 2,000 years.
Have you heard it? Have you remembered today?
Romans 5:6-8 – “6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person–though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die– 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Can you believe it? How is it possible? It makes no sense? How could a righteous, holy, eternal, good God do this?
What makes me deserving of this kind of love? What have I done that would warrant HIS attention, love, mercy, and grace to be poured out on me?
What do I have to offer, to give the creator of all things.
How could HE do it? How could HE die for me?
Isaiah 53:7 – “HE was oppressed, and HE was afflicted, yet HE opened not HIS mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so HE opened not HIS mouth.”
In silence, the Lord of hosts was mocked, spat on, slapped, whipped, stabbed, and nailed to a tree. HE was forsaken and separated from HIS father for the first time in all eternity. HE died and was buried.
No protest.
No objection.
No defense given.
HE allowed it with angel armies at HIS command.
HE didn’t open HIS mouth but quietly was led to the cross.
No one took HIS life from HIM but HE laid it down (John 10:18).
HE made a decision to take your place and my place.
Can you believe it? How is it possible? It makes no sense. How could a righteous, holy, eternal, good God do this?
The only explanation is LOVE.

1 John 4:8 says that “God is love”.
It is who HE is. HE proves HIS love for us that while we were still sinners HE died for us.

This is difficult for us to understand because it is a love that is in a class all it’s own. Romans 5 describes who someone might be willing to die for. Maybe a righteous or maybe a good person. That is reasonable to us. What isn’t reasonable to us is that God would send is only begotten son to die for rebellious sinners like you and me.

But it’s true. HIS love is true. It is the Good News of Jesus Christ! It is the Gospel! How could we ever come close to fully expressing or comprehending the depths of this love?
Never be content with your current grasp of the gospel. The gospel is the life-permeating, world-altering, universe-changing truth. It has more facets than a diamond. It’s depths man will never exhaust.” ― C.J. Mahaney
Everyday we should be in awe of the love of Christ poured out on us.
How could we ever find the words to fully express the wonder that is HIS love.
Though it is impossible for us to fully grasp we still reach to know HIM, to know this God of Love more and more.
