Stop.

Did you hear that?

What did you hear?

Maybe you heard that familiar creak in the hallway that means one of the kids is coming to you.

Or maybe you heard co-workers chatting in the background, maybe happy, maybe complaining. Maybe.

Or maybe you heard the creek bouncing over the rocks, or that one bird singing with all his might.

Did you know that sound helps us see? Sound moves in waves, just like light, but at a lower frequency. A little slower than light, but still pretty fast.  Sometimes when we can’t see, we can hear. It may be dark, but we can hear the rumble of thunder that tells of a storm approaching. Or the familiar voice on the phone that we recognize and makes us smile. Or the co-worker coming down the hall who we are trying to avoid 🙂 Sound gives us a picture, gives clarity, even words. Have you ever wondered why someone with early hearing loss has difficulty speaking? Sound. It shapes us, helps us, changes us.

Rev. 1:15  …and his voice was like the roar of many waters.

When the Lord speaks, it affects us even more deeply than what we know and understand. He speaks with a voice like many waters.

Ken said it well: “We were created to hear. In our culture, hearing is like this: we hear it, weigh it, contemplate it to understand it, then we agree to it. In God’s point of view: we hear it, we receive it, and it produces faith.  The choice we have to make is what we hear, with our ears, and with our heart. There is a reason there is a battle for our “hear sight”. Hearing the Lord, hearing God’s Word, produces faith.”

Try again.

There. Did you hear it? That familiar whisper, the sound of Love, speaking to your heart, to your mind…. It’s Him. Jesus. When He speaks, there is a resounding in our hearts, our soul, our whole being that recognizes His Words, His Voice, His Love.

So what are you listening to? Background noise? Family members? Your boss’s words that keep ringing in your ears? Your own stinging words to a loved one that you wish you could take back?

Jesus is speaking. He is the One that covers all these sounds with His love and Grace, His voice like the sound of many waters.

What are you listening to?

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the Voice that was speaking with me.

It’s actually simple. “Yield your hearing to the Lord. Father, we repent of hardening our hearts of hearing. Soften our hearts to hear You, to know You, recognize Your Voice. Perfect love casts out fear. “–Ken

Lord, will you speak to me? Lord, I want to hear You.

Rev 2:7 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

-“Hearing first; then, we can walk victorious”–Ken
